ABC’s of Farm Education Registration, March 2011

The ABC’s of Farm Education workshop, offered March 4th and 5th, combines opportunities to learn hands-on activities from our Project Seasons program. We also allow time for discussion, program planning and problem solving focusing around strategies for connecting with schools, marketing your program, advertising, and creating a safe educational environment. We do a “needs assessment” when participants register so that we are sure to touch on what you’d like to learn about the most (for instance: animal, veggie, soil topics, and/or marketing, program development, etc.)

The basic focus of this workshop is “how to start and/or enhance you farm-based educational programming”. Some people are just starting out; others are looking for new ideas. Conversations are very rich considering the variety of participant backgrounds.  We will visit a variety of places at Shelburne Farms during the workshop: our Market Garden, Dairy, Children’s Farm Yard and forest and fields- depending on the interests of Workshop participants. We will also meet several farmers at Shelburne Farms to gain their first hand experience of working with the public.

We can offer limited on-farm accommodations for $60.00 a night per person.  The accommodations are at the Orchard Cove House right on Lake Champlain.  These accommodations are available on a first come basis.
