This workshop will give Rutland area farmers a chance to learn about two collaborative marketing models that are working well in Chittenden County – The Intervale’s Food Hub program and a multi-farm CSA run by Charlotte farmers. At the Intervale, we’ll look at the logistics behind the Food Hub, a farmer collaborative managed by the Intervale Center that aggregates, markets and distributes local vegetables, fruits, cheeses, eggs, meats and specialty products to individual and wholesale buyers. After a presentation by Sona Desai focusing on the evolution of the food hub and the role farmers have played in the project’s development, we will tour the food hub facilities.  Lunch and a question and answer session with participating Food Hub producers will finish up this portion of the day.

The second model we will learn about is from a group of producers in Charlotte that offer convenient on-line ordering and neighborhood pick-ups to increase the availability, choice and ease of accessibility for their local customers.  This collaborative marketing model uses a website interface to process sales, contact farmers of customer orders and schedule produce drop offs and product aggregation.  Check out their website,, to get an idea of how this model works.
Farmers in the Rutland Region of Vermont are invited to participate in this series of workshops focused on learning different ways to reach individual and wholesale customers through collaborative marketing options.  This upcoming workshop will build on the first workshop where we learned about multi-farm CSA models, held November 16th at Champlain Orchards.

These workshops are offered as part of RAFFL’s New Farmer Initiative, in partnership with the Intervale Center.  The Series is generously sponsored by UVM’s Focusing on Beginning Farmers Project and the Northeast Sustainable Agriculture Research and Education (Northeast SARE) Program.
